Q & A: Who decided on having a 'Watcher'? Was this a decision by the angels or by humans or both?
The guides answer a reader's question about the illusion of a split between two aspects of the self
The guides love answering your questions - as you will see. It gives them the chance to clarify and expand on their message.
So last week, when a question popped up in our Facebook group, I decided to bring it to the guides.
The question came in response to this passage from Radiance and Reunion:
… there is only one self and the illusion of the two selves is what we are here to address and to make whole. And this is an act of forgiveness and we will explain this in due time but first we will lay the matter before you.
The divided self is/was a method of learning which has come to the end of its usefulness. It was intended to be a teaching tool whereby humanity might glimpse itself in action: a ‘watcher’ and a ‘doer’, as it were. Yet (over time) the Watcher took dominion and enslaved the Doer, commanding it to behave and conform, to follow rules and avoid punishment.
And this is the work of unbinding these commands and this is the liberation of the Doer AND the Watcher through the journey of the divided mind to the heart and soul.
The way of union is the way of joy/flow, the way of opening to allow joy to move the body without the attendance of the Watcher to every detail. And this is the end of anxiety as you will see and come to experience and to know.
Bonnie asked: Who decided on having a Watcher? Was this a decision by the angels or by humans or both?
This morning, as I awakened from sleep, I brought her question to the guides.
This is the time of day when I most easily connect, before the concerns of my day intrude, muddying my perception. The guides’ response came in waves - and I will tell you it was messy at first. I have not spoken with the guides this specifically in a long while. As you will observe, I was given an image first, which I didn’t fully understand. A few minutes later, at my request, the guides ‘tightened’ the message stream and it flowed with more clarity.

Thank you for the invitation to elaborate. We always appreciate your engagement, and we welcome your questions.
The guides show me a tree. I hear:
These things are not “decided” in the sense that you use this word. They are encoded (in the nature of the individual and the collective) and they are evolved, based on that nature, also collectively.
Can you explain what you mean?
A tree does not decide the shape and color of leaves, the texture of the bark of its trunk. These things are encoded in the seed. Still, a tree builds itself in collaboration, in co-creative partnership with the world around it.
The specifics of its genus encounter the qualities of the soil in which it is planted, the weather conditions and proximity of other life forms. Though every tree is different, every tree follows ‘tree nature,’ which is, in the simplest sense, the instinct/impulse to transform light into sugar, the instinct/impulse to build itself, guided by the blueprint in the seed. As such, using inner wisdom (its nature/the blueprint) and outer materials (soil, air, weather, light) the tree becomes itself.
So the human being makes itself. So the human being follows its nature. As the tree’s nature is to transform light into sugar, so the human being’s nature is to transform experience into learning and encounter into love - to expand consciousness while, at the same time, expanding love. An ever evolving balance.
“I don’t get this,” I said. “What does this have to do with Bonnie’s question?”
I felt a whoosh - like a ‘tightening’ around me, like a call to alertness - as the guides took over with more presence and precision. See if you can feel the shift.
And we are here with you and singing. And you are back and how delicious to have your question to ponder upon. It is always a joy to relate with you. Your curiosity and enthusiasm about the things we offer is inviting and exciting/is a pleasure for us to connect.
And Amy has gotten a good start on our answer. And here is our response to your question.
Thank you Bonnie for asking. Your questions contain the answers for they are born together one and the same. And this is where we begin our response but we take a moment to note, to clarify that as we respond, we are one in the same. The one who asks and the one who responds. And we are one and the same with the Watcher and the Doer. And they two are one. Which is to say that they are made of one cloth, one seed with two sides, which, when they come apart to look upon one, another, to touch one another are always still of one seed.
Which is to say that all is one.
“When I see you, I see myself. When I touch you, I touch myself. When I hurt you I hurt myself.” And this is the nature of things.
The Watcher was not made to lord over the one who moves (the Doer). Rather, the Watcher was made to be curious, interested, intrigued, for that is its nature. The nature of the Watcher is inquiry and exploration. Its task is to learn, and to bring back new information and insight about the qualities of things, and share those observations and experiences with the Doer. The nature of the Doer is to move, to receive and integrate what is given, and to love.
The Watcher was not made by us nor was the Watcher made by itself. Rather was the Watcher drawn out of unity by its nature — which is curiosity, which is questing — and as it was drawn out, it looked back and saw that it was ‘apart’. And then, for a moment, the Watcher forgot the way home. The way that is always the same. The way of love. The Watcher forgot its way, and forgot its nature (which is love) and forgot, also, the nature of its home in the Doer, forgot where it belongs and where it is always welcome.
And as a result of this momentary forgetfulness (and it was, truly, but one moment) the Watcher felt the pain of separation - and in that, experienced the full illusion, the belief that it was apart, separate and alone. And though true separation is not possible, for all is one, in this moment of forgetfulness, the illusion of separation was born — and so was suffering.
As the Watcher, who was still and always tethered to the Doer, experienced itself floating apart, the Watcher experienced rejection, alienation, regret - all of the hurt of separation. And, as it is the nature of the Watcher to understand, it began to search for cause, for a reason, and someone (else) to blame.
Yet healing requires no scapegoat. As the guides have taught me, the return of wellness, the cessation of suffering, the end of anxiety, does not require understanding, diagnosis or the identification of cause. Healing is a miracle, a simple one that defies all names: the restoration to wholeness through the return to love. The return of the condemned back to blessing.
That said, pain hurts. And this morning, with the guidance, I experienced a brand new symptom in my body: weird stabby icicles of pain in my pinky toe.
Why? Who knows? What caused it? Believe me, I searched for the answer. It hurt! Once I’d ruled out scary things - gout, kidney disease, I learned that stabby pinky toe pain is a bit of a mystery.
It could be that sitting in lotus pose while watching TV had smushed the little toe. It could be that walking for miles in the wrong shoes up and down the streets of San Francisco wasn’t a good idea. It could be an allergic reaction… to … I don’t know… something. What I learned: it’s a mystery. There is nothing and no one to blame. Without a diagnosis, what can I do? Apply Arnica cream. Make a little splint out of bandaids and a popsicle stick.
Tend to the pain and ease it where I can.
Be gentle with my little toe. Be gentler still with the part of me (the Watcher) that worries it’s the harbinger of something deadly.
I guess this is the point of my interruption to the guides’ message. They’re not telling us to ignore our pain or use our magic Lightworker fairy wands to wish it up to heaven.
The guides are offering real, practical suggestions for shifting our perception. As always, their guidance suggests that we include suffering in blessing; and, that we experience it (and everything else) as an invitation to learn and to love.
Back to their message:
It is the nature of the Watcher to learn, to understand, to identify. And so, the Watcher, hurt and alone, searches for cause, for a reason - someone or something to blame. And who is there, who is always there? Only the Doer, the steady companion who was never separate, steadily calling the Watcher home.
In separation, all seems split. There is the eye, and there is that which the eye can see. There is the thought, and there is the subject of that thought. There is the one and the one he looks upon - and this is a lonely pair, for the one has forgotten the other, and forgotten the nature of things.
In truth, the Doer was not to blame and nor was the Watcher. Nothing was wrong but the perception of separation where there was none. And we are here to say: In this time of reunion, blame is no longer necessary for the Watcher is coming home.
And so, we return to Bonnie’s question and we say, Neither angel nor human decided to exile the Watcher (for the Watcher is not exiled) but angel and human can bring the Watcher home.
Angel can point to him, floating and hurt.
Human can respond to the image the angel has shown.
It is angel nature to guide.
It is human nature to love.Through this partnership, healing can occur. The Watcher can return, called back to the Doer’s side. Two halves of one seed now come together. They look upon one another and realize: You are good. You are loved. You are mine and I am yours. For we are one and the same.
With this realization, the Watcher can forgive his momentary amnesia. The Doer can forgive her momentary isolation. The one can bless the other and return to the wholeness and the fullness of love.
And this is our answer on this day of January 7th, 2023.
If there is more you would like to know, please ask. We are here to serve, to respond, to facilitate the unfolding of your own realization.
Often as one message ends, more comes in waves to clarify and enhance. While typing up this message, more comes and it is this:

We caution you (but gently), Amy, and you, Reader: Do not name these things. You are trained (conditioned) to name and to classify, to test and find fault.
To this we suggest a new way.
When you do not conflate the Watcher with existing names like Ego, Mind, Masculine, when you do not conflate the Doer with names like Heart, Body, Feminine, new understanding naturally arises.
When you neither equate this split with gender nor with romantic partnership, still more wisdom comes. This wisdom knows that names are but boxes, meant to contain that which cannot be contained - moving, living, ever changing forces that dance together and apart, endlessly in-forming and unforming. This wisdom comes from the aspect of your own consciousness that knows what is real.
These old names are infused with projections, images built upon year after year of misunderstanding. We are here to reclaim the divided self, two halves of a whole.
Naming separates and splits. Drop all names and see, feel and meet what is actually here.
Resist naming and feel. Resist naming and locate the Watcher and the Doer in yourself. Find them as they move through your own field - in you and around you.
As you locate them, let them speak to you, each in its own language.
Where is the Watcher? Where is the Doer?
What does the Watcher offer? What does the Watcher need?
What does the Doer offer? What does the Doer need?Listen. What is here to see, to hear, to receive?
By this simple effort you will know them, not by their names but by their nature. And by your own nature you will respond to what you see, sense and understand. And this is the way of things now. This is the way of reunion.
