Re-reading Sea of Miracles Together - Chapter 7: Resonance, Energy and Patterns
For the past month or so, we’ve been re-reading my book, Sea of Miracles: An Invitation from the Angels. I invite you to join us! You’ll find all of the posts and my reflections in the Chapter Index. You can read it in order, like a book - or come to the posts that call to you.
Introduction to Chapter 7
Before language, before belief, before we ever open our eyes to the world, we are already in conversation - with rhythm, with energy, with love.
Our attunement to guidance begins not with words, but with resonance, the language of vibration, which we experience not as thinking but as flows of sensation and the responsive flows of emotion. In this chapter, we explore the ways that we are already wired to feel, to sense, and to know.
It is not something we have to learn from scratch, but something we are remembering.
Chapter 7:
Resonance, Energy, and PatternsThe angels showed me:
You attune to guidance through resonance—your inborn ability to sense and feel. The word resonance means, essentially, vibrating with. It's used to describe the qualities of sound, musical tones, voice, and even electrical or mechanical systems—anything that vibrates.
But resonance also describes the way one thing evokes a response in another. Just as a tuning fork will begin to resonate with another tuning fork—even when they start at different frequencies—you will naturally attune to and vibrate with the emotional resonance of a touching story on The Oprah Winfrey Show, or the way your voice aligns with the strongest singer when you sing with others.
You are already resonating.
Resonance is a built-in, automatic sensing skill that you've had—and used—since the day you were born. Even before.
The unborn child is already absorbing the rhythmic life of the mother's body: the patterns of heartbeat, breath, circulation, sleep, and waking—using its innate ability to sense and adjust to resonance.Once born, you attune to the resonance and rhythm of family life—as your family attunes to yours. (The sleep-deprived parents of any newborn will confirm this!) As you grow, you attune to the wider rhythms of your community, your friends, your extended family. At school, you absorb entirely new rhythms: new codes of conduct, social behavior, and dress.
This is reading energy, and you've been doing it all your life.
You did it when you emulated your parents, teachers, and the older kids on the block. You do it when you pick up the speech patterns or gestures of sports stars, rock musicians, TV characters, and movie icons.
You do it when you adapt—or react— to the social and political climate at work, at home, and in your community. You do it every time you're moved by a guru, a religious leader, or a charismatic politician.
Without even thinking about it, whenever you encounter a new experience or person, you automatically begin tuning into the energy—feeling for rhythm, for familiar and compatible (or incompatible) frequencies.
Even our language hints at this:
“I get good (or bad) vibes from this.”
“We just weren’t on the same wavelength.”This is energy talk.
And when we deepen our connection to the angels, the resonance of our entire being—body, mind, and spirit—shifts, naturally and easily, into alignment with their vibration of divine love and light.
People Ask Me: Is This Guidance?
When I encounter students at the beginning of their spiritual journey, they often ask me: Is this guidance? Is it angels?
They describe a sensation in their body… an image they perceived… a voice they heard upon waking… a dream they had last week.
And always, I turn them gently back to their own instincts.
“What do you think it is?” I ask, inviting them to tune in to their own blossoming intuition.
I know this can be frustrating. They want certainty. They want to know if what they're experiencing is real.
But I’ve learned not to solve the mystery for them. Leaving the question open helps people begin to trust their own guidance—and that is the goal of all spiritual paths.
The early stages of awakening—the brightening of curiosity and the deepening of attunement—are for experimentation. They’re for wiggling our toes in the spiritual sand and feeling the grains against our skin.
This is the perfect time to experiment with signs.
It's a time for asking questions and waiting—patiently, playfully—for the answers. It's a time of beginning faith, as we test the Universe:
Will I receive an answer this time? And this time? And this time?
I encourage my students to get playful with the angels.
“Ask for more signs,” I tell them.
“Ask for a sign you can’t miss.”Start a guidance journal. Record the signs and synchronicities that come.
Let it be a game—childlike. This is about rekindling wonder, reclaiming delight, awakening joy.Ask a question - something like my constant, “Are you there?”or a simple, “Show me you can hear me,” and spend the whole day watching for answers. The signs will come.
The angels are as playful as we are. As my former radio co-host Janet Paist once said, “The angels often have similar ‘personalities’ to our own—delivering guidance in a form and manner that we’re comfortable receiving.”
Try This: Sensing Guidance Through Your Body
Which one should I choose?
Use this technique for yes/no questions, or any time you need to choose between two options:
Think of a choice you have to make.
Start with something simple—just two options: Yes or No, This or That.Hold both hands out before you, palms up.
Close your eyes.
Imagine the first option resting in your right palm.
You don’t have to “see” it clearly—just allow an image or word to appear in your mind’s eye and settle onto your hand. Now imagine the second option forming in your left hand.
Sit quietly, letting yourself feel the weight or sensation of each choice.
– Does one hand feel heavier?
– Warmer? Cooler? Brighter?
There's no right or wrong way to feel this. Each of us has a unique sensory language we use to read experience. Just feel what you feel. When you have a clear sense of each option, ask:
– Which choice feels better?
– Which feels more resonant with who I am?One may feel heavier, more burdensome. The other may feel light, open, or easeful. Trust your own way of knowing.
Make a note of the response.
This is guidance.Pay attention to what happens when you follow the guidance you receive.
And notice what happens when you don’t.
Closing Reflection
You already know how to feel for resonance.
You already know how to follow the vibration of what feels real, true, alive.
You are not learning something new—you are remembering.
When we trust our resonance, we walk in tune with the living rhythm of love. And the angels walk with us. Always.
