The Soul Caller work isn’t about getting anything. It isn’t about changing or perfecting ourselves or accomplishing spiritual goals. We aren’t trying to earn our way through some ascension process and leave our worldly cares behind.
All of that isn’tspiritual work at all. It’s a strange mirror image of the illusion our culture has taught us: that our happiness lies in piling up treasure, gaining approval, earning medals until one bright day, we retire, rich and free.
Soul Caller work is about revealing that illusion - but gently, carefully - and learning to navigate around it so we can live with more joy and ease right now. For the simple truth is: this is our birthright as human beings.
In the Soul Caller work, instead of ascending spiritual ladders, we’re climbing down to the earth, where real spiritual work takes place.
Instead of accelerating, we’re slowing. We’re sitting down - even lying down, eyes closed, counting breaths and … well, that’s it.
Is that even possible in a world like this? With so many voices calling for our attention, is it possible any more to come to center? To quiet the mind and settle the body. To listen for the sound of bird song, of wind through trees. The sound of a quieter voice calling: Stay. Stay here. Stay with me. Turn your attention toward me, toward this.
That voice isn’t an angel. It isn’t a spirit guide or nature deva. It’s you - your true self. And it’s calling from inside.
Before we can receive guidance from the celestial, the non-physical, we need to receive guidance from what is right here inside us: the true self. Guidance from the true self can sound and feel like bursts of rage and bursts of creativity. It can sound and feel like aching loneliness and overbrimming love.
When we begin listening to the true self, it may flood us with grief, surprise us with laughing fits, make us weep with joy or outrage. All of this is movement, all of it passes as we begin to listen FROM the true self.
When we are listening FROM the true self, we are listening with new ears and seeing with new eyes. Where we have been complaining, now we are compassionate. Where we have been critical, now we feel with the suffering of others. We move from empathy and a deep wisdom that knows what matters - and what matters to us.
When we are listening from the true self, we begin to detect another ‘voice’- our own body - and we begin to understand the language of symptoms and sensations it speaks. Now, a headache is more than a nuisance to be erased with a pain relieving pill. It’s an invitation. A conversation is offering itself. Getting this voice into conversation with the true self can change your health and potentially, your whole life.
When we are listening from the true self, we naturally and easily begin to perceive the guidance of the natural world. We are always receiving signs and signals from the invisible - angels and other spirit friends - now we can see them, now we begin to trust them.
Soul Caller work establishes the true self at the center of your life. It calls you back home to yourself. To your natural way of being. Once you are home, and present to yourself, you naturally begin to build a life that supports you. Around that life, the world of love naturally forms. A field of holding opens around you. A field of love that sustains and nourishes, supports and encourages.
Living from the true self is an entirely different way of living. A shift in perspective which lifts you out of the world that our culture built around you. A world of competition and endless striving in which you are a consumer, a voter, a customer, and a worker exchanging hours of labor for dollars so you can buy things. A world of fear and blame, where you are categorized through caste systems and corporate systems, which decide how useful you are and ‘shown your place’ through systems of shame, humiliation (aka bullying).
When this is all you’re shown, this is what seems to be real - this is just how the world works, you shrug. You’ve internalized the illusion. Now, you keep yourself in your place. Shying away from risks that might put you in the limelight. Giving up your dreams because that sort of thing is simply not for you.
I want to say here that this is trauma. And since all of us have, to some degree, internalized this system, all of us are dealing with the effects of trauma every day. Which is why, when we begin to see that this way of living is unnatural, unbalanced and unsustainable, we can become very unsettled. We don’t know what to do.
One of the things that I’ve learned in the years that I’ve been teaching the Soul Caller material is the power of the circle. Sitting in community with others and hearing their stories is one of the most healing balms for this kind of trauma. We see that we are not the only one afflicted with these feelings. We see that we are not alone. Out of that seeing, we begin to feel a little more brave, a little less susceptible to the shame/blame/humiliation game. We can take small risks in our life. And then, larger risks.
Step by step, the true self comes to the center of our lives. Step by step, who we really are emerges into view.
The world of love is radically different than the world our culture has built/ And once you experience it, you never really fit into the old way of living. That said, Soul Caller work doesn’t remove you from reality - it simply enhances and illuminates the life you already have.
If I had to give this work a different name, I’d probably call it: Stay - ironically, the opposite of the word Journey, the name of my new program.
That single word, Stay, is a kind of symbol for all the Soul Caller work teaches us. When we stay - right here, when we stay with what is here before us - this marriage, this job, this family, this set of symptoms…
When we don’t numb out, disassociate. When we develop the courage and the inner container to experience this moment fully, we can call the true self home.
We can call back the disassociated parts of our own consciousness.
And then, once we have practiced Staying. Listening. Sensing, once our perspective (and identity) has shifted from consumer (out to get somewhere, out to get something) into the truth of who we are, then the journey begins.
We move into the life that we already have and discover everything has changed. You have changed.
Now, instead of trying to get somewhere - you are already there. Now, instead of trying to get anything - you have everything.
Now, instead of trying to earn or purchase or steal or inherit wealth, you are wealth and that wealth radiates out around you, touching other lives, lighting up the world.
Now, instead of trying to fill yourself with things and experiences, you are filled with the radiance of your true self.
So that’s the work.
Setting down the grabbing and the getting and coming home to the quiet contentment of having it all. GIving up the expectation (your own, your family’s, our culture’s) that you live up to your potential and instead, letting your potential find you - and fill you, from head to toe. It’s about letting love have you, letting light illuminate you from the inside out.
This is Soul Caller work. This year, I’m doing it in a program called Journey 2022. We begin in January. If you’re interested, here’s a link about that. https://amyoscar.com/journey2022 If you join now, you’ll be invited to participate in my December events: Entering the Dark Together and Envision 2022.
If you’re not called to Journey, there will be other gatherings - and other ways to connect with the Soul Caller work.
As always, I’d love to hear from you. Leave a comment or reply to this newsletter.
Sending you all the blessings of the season.
