Flow 6.20: Dis-appoint yourself
You are the only one who can remove the cloak of disappointment from your own shoulders and replace it with the glorious robe of your own magnificent APPOINTMENT!
We are here to reunite that which was never meant to be apart: the separated with the abandoned, the lonely with the empty; the disembodied with the body; the spirit with the soul; the spirit-soul with the earth.
And we are here. We are always here. And that is our message today: that we are always here. For though you have been away, even so, we are here and you have felt us here. And Amy is discovering a pattern inside of herself of not wanting to disappoint anyone - and she has included us in this pattern of shyness and shame; of withholding herself from intimacy so that she does not disappoint us.
We like this word ‘dis-appoint’ - we like it a lot. It gives us much to work with. For what does it mean to dis-appoint oneself? To remove oneself from appointment. And how might you do such a thing? For that matter, what does it meant to ‘appoint’ one's self? To appoint, it seems to us, means: to generate a focal point at the center of the self and to point there; to place one’s self at the center of things; the center of causality, the center of the world.
We like this word very much for our purposes today - for our message today is: We are always here. We are always self-appointed to be pointedly here. No one else has sent us here; we appointed ourselves to be here. We made an appointment and we kept it: an appointment to show up, always, here.
And do you see the beautiful humorous truth? Do you see it? We hope so, for we are much amused. The magnificent glorious truth that is, as usual, embedded into your very language, and as such, demonstrating your awareness of our message of inclusion - that all are included in the field of blessing, the field of love and peace.
For when you say that you dis-appoint yourself, you are saying that: I, Amy, have chosen to remove myself from my appointment to be here. To remove myself from the center of the world. And it is a choice, and we will show you how it works.
You say: I, Amy, have chosen to dis-appoint myself from the blessing of my own attendance to my own needs, to my own story, my own appointment to be present - in this moment. Right here. Right now. Meeting this message, wherever I may be. I, Amy, have chosen to place my attention on another. To place my attention on you, Husband; you, Mother; you, Father; on you, Child of mine. I have chosen to place my attention on you, Client; you, Student; you, Presidential Candidate; you, Doctor; you, Expert to whom I yield the authority of my own appointment.
You, whom I have appointed to the center of my world by the yielding of my attention to you - by my identification of myself as being FOR YOU but not FOR ME. By this, I Amy, have chosen to dis-appoint myself from the seat of my own center, my own story, my own life!
Now can you see why we love this word?! Now can you see how you are living in a sea of thought-language which demonstrates that you already know who you are?
You are the Chooser. You are the Namer of yourself and all things. You are the Maker of this language. You are the one who appoints and dis-appoints you. You are the one: the only one who can remove the cloak of this disappointment from your own shoulders and replace it with the glorious robe of your own magnificent APPOINTMENT!
Your appointment with yourself
You are here and we are here with you. Now it is time for you to arrive and appoint yourself to the task at hand: the task of being here for yourself. And, oh, how we know this is a challenge for we can feel, even now, your energy pulling back from this appointment that we suggest. For you are trained - and well-practiced - at dis-appointing yourself by placing everyone and everything you see in the world before you, BEFORE YOU.
And so we will say that there is a time and a place for courtesy - for putting the needs of another ahead of your own - and there is a good and proper custom (and truth) in kindness. And we encourage you, always, to choose the path that is kind to others as you choose the path toward your own appointment with joy.
Yet the path to your joy is ALWAYS the kindest path FOR ALL - and this includes kindness toward yourself. This includes your joy.
Now we have said that the path to joy will always lead to joy. And this is true. Yet, the path to your joy is not through the joy of another. For you can not know or control the joy (or the path) of another by your own action. You can not know the joy of another. You can not make them joyful. Nor can you control their experience of the choices which you make. And your attempts to manage your world based on how you will be perceived and received by another are steps on the path of dis-appointment - and so they will always lead to more of the same: disappointment.
For when you appoint the joy of another to be the center of your attention and action, you dis-appoint yourself. It cannot be otherwise. There cannot be two centers to one circle. Your eyes (and your mind) cannot land on two focal points at the same time. Yet when you appoint yourself to the center of your joy, you automatically dis-appoint another from that center, and this has immediate effects and consequences.
First, sovereignty returns. You return it to yourself. When you re-appoint yourself to center, you return yourself to freedom. Next, you release the other from occupying the center of your life (a place they can never fill) and, in doing so, you reveal the truth: they have their own center to fill. Now they, too, are free to pursue their appointment with joy.
There is a deeper and longer-term effect of this appointment and dis-appointment. The longer-term effect: the marriage of the Watcher and the Doer
Did you think we had forgotten them - the lonely Watcher, floating in his balloon above the world; the abandoned Doer, toiling away at her empty task? [Note: The guides mention the watcher and the doer in this post and in this Q and A.]
We will never forget them for we are here to bring the Watcher home. We are here to fill the emptiness of the Doer. We are here to reunite that which was never meant to be apart: the separated with the abandoned, the lonely with the empty; the disembodied with the body; the spirit with the soul; the spirit-soul with the earth.
That is our purpose here today and always: to bring the Watcher inside and to comfort and support his homecoming; to ease his terror and alienation as we re-place him where he be-longs (longs to be) - his true home; the seat beside the Doer at the center of the one radiant heart.
We are here to bring two into one; the instinct and the intellect; the mind and the body. We invite them to touch hands now and, once touch has been established, we are here to hold the space and the time for their reunion. We hold this container of space/time with you, together. We hold it, first in the imaginal realm, where time and space can meet and move together. (And yes, as you are asking, Amy, the Watcher is the mind (the one in Time) and the Doer is the body (the one in Space). And their separation was necessary (for Love to experience itself).
And we are here to re-establish their union, as the one becomes re-acquainted with the other. And then, and soon, to re-establish their union in real time and real space here on Earth. For like all creations, this crossing over from separation to reunion will begin in the imaginal and will be replicated soon in the manifest (material world) by your attention to it.
This crossing over will bring lofty concept to grounded reality. This crossing over will begin (has already begun) inside your own heart - the one place where what is above can merge with what is below: the one realm which dwells at the veil as both imaginal and physical space. The center of your world. Your own heart.
Your heart is the center of the world. The cup where all creation begins.
You don’t have to understand this. In fact, you can’t understand it. And that attempt to understand, to make logic of what is outside of the mind’s logic, is the Watcher, reaching for something he cannot have. You cannot understand this alchemical equation by looking at it from outside. It must be experienced.
The Watcher, endlessly vigilant, endlessly examining and trying so hard, with such integrity and effort, to know what to do. The Watcher, believing that the only way he can know peace is by keeping everything under control, floats above, so alone, so frightened. Knowing that he cannot DO anything on his own. Knowing he can only direct the Doer - and attempt to keep her from spinning out of control. Waiting only for the Doer to behave, to yield herself - and all of her bounty and beauty to him. Endlessly watching, endlessly vigilant lest she DO the wrong thing. Yet it is he who is in error, he who has chosen against himself - for he has yielded his true nature (which is Love) to fear.
For her part, the Doer, trying so hard, working herself to the bone, starving herself in pursuit of perfection, staying up too late in pursuit of performance, if only the Watcher will approve of her, will stop criticizing her every effort.
And so the weary Doer, dis- appoints herself day after day as she yields herself to the Watcher... And so, the terrified Watcher, dis-appoints himself endlessly, as he yields to fear.
Yet we would invite you now into celebration of what is about to occur - for we are about to unite the Watcher with the Doer. The long-lost lovers are entering the safe and sacred chamber of the heart - your heart, Amy. Your heart, dear Reader. For the Watcher and the Doer are coming together in you - FOR you.
They are meeting now and joining hands and looking one at the other, looking into eyes filled with such love. And the angels are dancing all around them (for angels love weddings and dance at every one!). For even though neither the Watcher nor the Doer understood how they would find their way, and though neither believed they knew the way, they are here - they found one another here. Now. At the center of the world, for that was always their destiny.
How do we know this with such certainty? It is the nature of all things to move toward joy and at the end of every joy-path lies reunion: Watcher and Doer, moving as one. Mind and Body, integrated and aligned. Sacred thought married to Sacred Flesh, for as they join hands and turn to face the world that they have made, the illusion is gone - the veils have fallen - He was meant to know her, she was meant to know him; each by his own, her own nature. For their union is the path to joy.
The end of dis-appointment
And now we turn, dear reader, from metaphor to meaning - from symbol to that which symbol represents: your way to peace. Your way to love. Your way to joy. For now is the time and this is the place and this is your invitation to call the separated - split self - into wholeness.
And so, dear Reader, this is the end of Book One and the beginning of Book Two. For this is the way of things, the way of the One Flow, endlessly emerging before you and within you, endlessly inviting you to your appoointment with Love.
****
Books Two and Three will go into details about the ways of Holiness and Making Sacred the World; the ways of healing and forgiveness; and the ways of restoring what was never lost. We will speak of practical actions you can take; and Book Three (or perhaps Book Four, who knows!) will deal with Manifestation and Magic, for these things will make sense now. We shall see where our joy-path leads! For we are unfolding this project by your appointment of us as your guides. We will not - for we cannot - dis-appoint you from the center of this project, nor can we dis- appoint you (unseat you) from the center of your life. For you are the Chooser of all that we lay before you. The Chooser and the Maker, the one who sets this project to its task.
You, the Watcher, bursting with curiosity, scanning the horizon for questions. Curious, open to what comes. You, the Doer, feeling and sensing for the instinctive response, for the movement that is asking to be moved. You, the Namer of all you see before you. You, the Creator of the world that you see.
Here it is. Here you are with it. And all of it, all of this that you have made, is for you. And all of you is for this.
You are here. And we are here, with you, as we have always been. As we ever shall be.
